Eye Examination: Signs that You Need One

When is the right time to take an Eye Exam Mississauga? Every person is different, thus, it is essential to follow the advice that your eye doctor provides and recommends. If you are not certain because it has been a long time since your last visit to the doctor, there are signs that you can watch out for to determine that you need one.

 

Unlike a visit to the dentist, it is not generally necessary to have a visit to the eye doctor every six months. A comprehensive exam every two years would ensure that your eyes are healthy and your vision will stay sharp. If you have any medical conditions, such as diabetes and other ocular disorders, high prescription, previous eye trauma or surgery, lazy eyes, or a family history of macular degeneration or glaucoma, you need to have more frequent eye examinations.

1. Blurry Vision or Problems Focusing

A sudden blurry vision or problems in focusing can be signs of larger health issues and need to taken seriously. When the blurry vision comes and goes, or when it's limited to one eye, you need to schedule an eye exam with your ophthalmologist or optometrist as soon as possible.

 

2. Appearance of visual disturbances: floaters, flashes of light, of obstruction of vision

A sudden onset of these visual disturbances can be a sign of serious and vision-threatening disorder, like retinal tear, retinal detachment, or retinal hole. Anyone who is experiencing these signs need to seek immediate medical attention for proper diagnosis and treatment, and to minimize loss of vision.

 

3. Headaches

Having frequent headache could be a sign of vision problems. The changes in vision may often take place slowly and imperceptible to the patient at first. But, these headaches can be early warning signs of a vision change. When having recurring headaches, consider having your eyes checked.

 

4. Blurring of Vision

This vision degradation gradually happens through time. If you are moving your computer screen further away from your eyes than you used to just to improve clarity, it's high time to undergo an eye exam. Same thing goes when you are now sitting closer to the TV of bringing objects closer to you to read the words.

 

5. Squinting

We squint when we have difficulty seeing something to reduce the extraneous light that enters the eyes and to reduce light scattering, to improve vision. This is usually the first sign among children that they need eyeglasses.

 

6. Eye Pain/Eye Strain

When having an ongoing eye pain for how many days, or when you have eye pain with eye movements,have your eyes checked. It can be a sign of infection, or a serious health condition. It can also be a warning that your visions changed.

 

7. Eye Infection

When you have swelling of the eyelids, redness, itchiness, a pink discoloration of the white part of the eye, or discharge, you might have an eye infection. The moment you experience these symptoms, go see a doctor.

 

8. Sensitivity to Light

When there is a sudden onset of sensitivity to light, it is a sign to have an eye exam. Sensitivity to light can be a symptom of eye disorders or diseases.
